Scopes

The activities of this Committee will be coordinated with other ASTM committees
of ASTM and outside organizations having related interests.

The promotion of knowledge and development of standards (test methods, guides, practices, classifications, and terminology) for, but not limited to,
definitions, methods and standard reference materials for the collection, preservation, scientific examination, preparation and reports relating to physical evidence for forensic purposes; and the general practice of forensic science; and other areas as determined by the scope.

Scope E30.11

Interdisciplinary Forensic Science Standards

Develops and maintains consensus standards applicable across multiple forensic science disciplines. These standards cover general topics, including, but not limited to, (1) the investigation and collection of various items from incident sites, (2) training (including legal, human factors, and statistical topics), (3)
reporting, (4) testimony, and (5) quality assurance.

Scope E30.12

Digital and Multimedia Evidence

Develops and maintains consensus standards specific to the forensic examination of digital and multimedia evidence for use in investigations and legal proceedings. These standards cover topics including (1) the identification, collection, and preservation of digital evidence, (2) the processing and analysis of digital data and multimedia recordings, (3) the interpretation and reporting of observations and
opinions obtained from the examination of digital and multimedia evidence, and (4) the discipline-specific training of digital and multimedia examiners.

Ignitable Liquids, Explosives, and Gunshot Residue (ILEGSR)

E30.13 ILEGSR. Develops and maintains consensus standards specific to the forensic analysis
of ignitable liquids, explosives, and gunshot residue. These standards cover topics including (1)
the handling of these types of evidence, (2) the examination and analysis of these types of
evidence, (3) the interpretation and reporting of observations or opinions obtained from the
examination of these types of evidence, and (4) the discipline-specific training of ignitable liquid,
explosives, or gunshot residue examiners.
